A little history behind the ride

The rally’s roots reach back to 1938, when J.C. “Pappy” Hoel hosted a dirt-track race with nine riders. That small beginning became a gathering that connects riders from around the world. The Sturgis Chamber’s history page offers more background on the town and surrounding area.

Our own Main Street group-photo tradition is one way visitors become part of that continuing story. Learn when and where to join the group photo.
