Be part of the Main Street group photo
Our recurring rally tradition is a group photo at 12 noon sharp, daily from the first Saturday through the final Saturday, near the tower at Junction Avenue and Main Street. Under that pattern, the 2027 dates would be August 7–14; confirm the 2027 photo schedule before planning around it.

Plan a day that leaves room for the ride
A useful itinerary has a few anchors rather than every hour filled. Choose a ride or destination, allow time downtown, and leave space before any ticketed evening performance. If the group photo matters to you, plan your morning around getting back to Main Street before noon.
Keep the exact location with every event on your list: “Sturgis rally” can describe activities at different venues around the area. Check current route conditions, venue access and organizer instructions before heading out.
From a dirt-track race to a shared tradition
The Sturgis Chamber traces the rally to Pappy Hoel’s 1938 dirt-track race with nine riders. For visitors today, the memories often extend beyond any one event: the road into town, the people met along the way and the moment everyone gathers on Main Street.
